radar technology
Radio-based location finding
Radar technology uses radio waves to detect and locate objects.
A transmitter sends out pulses that bounce off surfaces and return to a receiver, revealing an object's distance, speed, and direction.
Originally developed for military detection of aircraft and ships, radar now guides air traffic control, weather forecasting, speed enforcement, and autonomous vehicles.
