r&r

Leave from duty

R&R stands for rest and relaxation—time off from work or duty to recover energy.

The term originated in military contexts, describing leave granted to soldiers away from combat zones: After six months deployed, the troops finally got some R&R.

In civilian use, it refers to any leisure break: I'm taking a week of R&R at the beach.
