putout
Defensive baseball statistic
A putout is a baseball statistic credited to the fielder who directly records an out—catching a fly ball, tagging a runner, or stepping on a base for a force out.
First basemen typically lead in putouts because they receive throws for routine groundouts: The shortstop fielded it cleanly and got the putout at first.
