wild pitch
Mound-to-plate disaster
A wild pitch in baseball is a pitch so erratic that the catcher cannot reasonably catch or control it, allowing baserunners to advance.
The error is charged to the pitcher, distinguishing it from a passed ball, which is the catcher's fault.
The runner scored from third on a wild pitch.
