pump attendant
Gas station worker
A pump attendant is a worker at a gas station who fills customers' tanks, checks oil, and sometimes cleans windshields.
Once ubiquitous, pump attendants became rare as self-service stations spread in the 1970s and 1980s.
A few U.S. states still require them by law: New Jersey is the last holdout for full-service pumping.
