probationary periods
New employee evaluations
Probationary periods are trial phases at the start of employment during which an employer evaluates a new hire's performance and fit.
During this time—typically thirty to ninety days—the employee may be dismissed more easily than after becoming permanent staff.
She was still in her probationary period when they let her go.
Also used for trial phases in other contexts: parole, academic standing, or membership in organizations.
