pretrial release
Freedom before trial
Pretrial release is the practice of allowing an accused person to remain free while awaiting trial.
Release may be unconditional, or it may require posting bail or meeting other conditions—regular check-ins, travel restrictions, electronic monitoring.
The alternative is pretrial detention, where defendants remain in custody until their case is resolved.
The judge granted pretrial release with a $50,000 bond.
