presolar grains
Pre-sun cosmic dust
Presolar grains are microscopic particles of dust that formed before the solar system existed, preserved in primitive meteorites.
These tiny grains—older than the Sun itself—originated in dying stars and supernovae, carrying isotopic signatures that reveal their extrasolar origins.
Scientists study them to understand stellar processes and the raw materials from which our solar system formed.
