prerinse
First dishwasher cycle
Prerinse is a preliminary rinse before the main washing cycle.
In dishwashing, a prerinse removes loose food particles before dishes go in the machine: Skip the prerinse—modern dishwashers handle it.
Commercial kitchens use prerinse sprayers to blast debris off plates.
The term appears in laundry contexts too, where a prerinse loosens heavy soil before the wash cycle begins.
