precooler
First-stage heat exchanger
A precooler is a device that cools air or another substance before it enters a main system—typically an engine, compressor, or industrial process.
By reducing inlet temperature, precoolers improve efficiency and protect downstream components from heat damage.
The term appears most often in aerospace and refrigeration contexts: The jet engine's precooler reduces air temperature before combustion.
