A cold plate is a metal plate with internal channels through which coolant flows, used to draw heat away from electronics or other components.
In data centers and high-performance computing, cold plates attach directly to processors or circuit boards: The server uses liquid-cooled cold plates instead of fans.
The term also refers to a chilled serving dish for cold cuts and appetizers.
