HPV screening

Checking for papillomavirus

HPV screening is medical testing to detect human papillomavirus, a sexually transmitted infection that can cause cervical and other cancers.

Unlike a Pap smear, which looks for abnormal cells, HPV screening identifies the virus itself.

Guidelines typically recommend screening for women over 30, often combined with Pap tests: Her doctor suggested HPV screening every five years.
