prairie towns
Small grassland communities
Prairie towns are small settlements scattered across the flat, treeless grasslands of the North American interior.
The term evokes a particular character: isolated communities surrounded by vast agricultural expanses, often built along railroad lines in the late 1800s.
The highway connected a string of prairie towns, each with its grain elevator and water tower.
