post-disco

After-disco electronic music

Post-disco is dance music that emerged in the early 1980s as disco's mainstream popularity waned.

It retained disco's rhythmic foundation—four-on-the-floor beats, synthesizers, bass-heavy grooves—while incorporating electronic production and often darker, more experimental textures.

The genre bridges disco and later electronic dance styles like house and hi-NRG: Post-disco kept the clubs alive after the backlash.
