A portable AC is an air conditioning unit designed to be moved from room to room rather than permanently installed.
Unlike window units or central air systems, portable ACs sit on the floor and typically vent hot air through a hose to a window: We bought a portable AC for the bedroom since our apartment doesn't have central air.
They're popular in rentals and older buildings where permanent installation isn't practical.
