planting depth
How deep underground
Planting depth is how deep a seed or seedling should be placed in the soil.
Different plants require different depths—small seeds often need only a light covering, while larger seeds and bulbs go deeper.
The general rule is to plant seeds at a depth two to three times their diameter: Check the packet for planting depth.
