photoresistor
Illumination-sensitive component
A photoresistor is an electronic component whose electrical resistance changes based on how much light hits it—resistance drops as light increases.
Also called a light-dependent resistor (LDR), it's used in devices that respond to ambient light: automatic streetlights, camera exposure meters, night lights that turn on at dusk.
