photomorphogenesis
Light-shapes plant form
Photomorphogenesis is the process by which plants develop and change form in response to light.
Unlike growth that happens in darkness, photomorphogenesis triggers specific structural changes—stem elongation, leaf expansion, chlorophyll production—when seedlings emerge into light.
The term is technical, used primarily in plant biology: Photomorphogenesis explains why seedlings grown in darkness look so different from those grown in light.
