phone in

Call the station

To phone in is to deliver something with minimal effort, going through the motions without genuine engagement: The actor clearly phoned it in—no emotion, no conviction.

The image is of someone calling in their contribution rather than showing up in person.

Originally from literally phoning in a report or performance to a broadcast, it now describes any halfhearted effort: Don't phone in your presentation just because it's Friday.
