phone home

Ring your house

Phone home means to contact one's home base, headquarters, or family, especially when away.

The phrase gained currency from the 1982 film E.T., where the stranded alien repeats E.T. phone home.

In computing and technology, software that phones home sends data back to its maker, often without the user's knowledge: The app was caught phoning home with location data.
