phishing scam
Fake login trap
A phishing scam is a fraudulent attempt to steal personal information—passwords, credit card numbers, account details—by impersonating a trusted entity.
The attacker typically sends emails or messages that mimic legitimate organizations, directing victims to fake websites designed to harvest credentials: I almost fell for a phishing scam that looked exactly like my bank's login page.
The term combines "fishing" (casting bait to catch victims) with "phone phreaking" (early hacker culture).
