philosopher kings
Enlightened governing minds
Philosopher kings are rulers who govern through wisdom and knowledge rather than wealth, popularity, or military power.
The concept comes from Plato's *Republic*, which argues that ideal states should be led by those trained in philosophy and capable of perceiving truth and justice.
The term now appears in discussions of technocracy, meritocracy, or any system where expertise is supposed to guide political authority: Silicon Valley's fantasy of philosopher kings running society through algorithms.
Often used skeptically, questioning whether any elite can be trusted with unchecked power.
