phenolphthalein

Turns pink, alkaline

Phenolphthalein is a chemical compound used as an acid-base indicator in chemistry.

It turns bright pink or magenta in alkaline solutions and remains colorless in acidic ones, making it useful for titrations: The solution turned pink when we added the final drop, indicating the endpoint.

It was formerly used as a laxative but has been largely withdrawn due to safety concerns.
