phantom vibration
False phone alert
Phantom vibration is the sensation that your phone is vibrating when it isn't—a false alert from a device that's silent or not even in your pocket.
The phenomenon reflects how attuned we've become to expecting notifications: I keep feeling phantom vibrations even though I left my phone at home.
Also called phantom vibration syndrome.
