penitential psalms
Sorrowful biblical songs
The penitential psalms are seven psalms from the Hebrew Bible traditionally used to express repentance and sorrow for sin.
They are Psalms 6, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130, and 143.
In Christian liturgical practice, these psalms are recited during Lent and other penitential seasons, or as part of confession and reconciliation rites.
