pelargonium

Common potted flower

A pelargonium is a flowering plant of the genus Pelargonium, native to southern Africa and commonly grown as ornamental houseplants or garden flowers.

Though often called geraniums, pelargoniums are technically a separate genus—the plants sold at garden centers as geraniums are usually pelargoniums: The window boxes were filled with red pelargoniums.

They're prized for their colorful blooms and aromatic leaves.
