parietal peritoneum

Cavity wall membrane

The parietal peritoneum is the membrane lining the inner surface of the abdominal and pelvic walls, as distinct from the visceral peritoneum, which covers the organs themselves.

The two layers are continuous, forming a closed sac with a thin film of fluid between them that allows organs to move smoothly against the body wall.
