paper-pusher

Clerical worker, derisively

A paper-pusher is someone whose job consists mainly of paperwork and bureaucratic tasks—filling out forms, processing documents, shuffling files.

The term is mildly disparaging, suggesting the work is tedious, unimportant, or disconnected from real productivity: I didn't get a law degree to become a paper-pusher.

Also spelled paperpusher.
