Feeling irregular heartbeats
Palpations are instances of palpating—examining by touch, especially in medical contexts where a doctor feels the body to assess organs, detect abnormalities, or locate tenderness: Abdominal palpations revealed an enlarged liver.
The word also applies to heart palpitations felt from the outside, though that sense risks confusion with the more common *palpitations* (rapid heartbeats felt internally).
