oversaving

Too much frugality

Oversaving is saving money to an excessive or counterproductive degree—accumulating wealth beyond what's needed while sacrificing present enjoyment or security.

Economists use it to describe when high savings rates reduce consumer spending enough to slow economic growth.

On a personal level, someone oversaving might live frugally despite ample resources, denying themselves experiences or comfort: Her parents oversaved their whole lives and never took a vacation.
