overproof
Above standard alcohol
Overproof describes alcoholic spirits with higher alcohol content than standard proof—typically above 50% alcohol by volume.
Overproof rum is the most common example, favored for cocktails where the spirit needs to stand up to mixers, or for flambéing: The bartender floated overproof rum on top and lit it.
