overhead transparency
Clear lecture slide
An overhead transparency is a clear plastic sheet designed for use with an overhead projector, a device that projects images onto a screen or wall.
Teachers and presenters wrote or printed information on these sheets, which were then illuminated from below and magnified for audiences.
The technology was ubiquitous in classrooms and conference rooms from the 1960s through the 1990s: The professor shuffled through her stack of overhead transparencies.
Digital presentation software has largely made them obsolete.
