overcoached

Too much guidance

Overcoached describes athletes or performers who have received so much instruction that their natural ability is stifled.

The term suggests that coaching has become counterproductive—too many drills, too much analysis, too many corrections: The quarterback looked overcoached, hesitating on throws he used to make instinctively.

The criticism implies that spontaneity and instinct have been trained out of someone.
