overcoaching

Too much guidance

Overcoaching is giving too much instruction or guidance, particularly in sports or performance contexts, to the point where it becomes counterproductive.

A player who is overcoached may lose confidence, overthink their movements, or fail to develop their own instincts.

The kid had natural talent until overcoaching made him second-guess every swing.

The term implies that sometimes less direction produces better results.
