oryxes

African desert antelopes

Oryxes is the plural of oryx, a large antelope native to arid regions of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula.

These striking animals are recognizable by their long, straight or slightly curved horns, distinctive facial markings, and pale coats adapted to desert heat.

The Arabian oryx was hunted nearly to extinction but has been successfully reintroduced to the wild through conservation programs.

The oryxes gathered near the watering hole at dusk.
