elands

Large African bovids

Elands are the largest African antelopes, with spiraling horns and a distinctive dewlap—a fold of loose skin hanging from the throat.

Despite their size, elands are surprisingly agile jumpers.

The two species, common and giant, inhabit savannas and open woodlands.

We spotted a herd of elands grazing at dawn.
