one-party system
Single faction governance
A one-party system is a political structure in which a single party holds power and competing parties are either banned or rendered ineffective.
The ruling party typically controls government institutions, media, and elections, making genuine political opposition impossible.
China and North Korea operate under one-party systems.
Also called a single-party state.
