officializing

Granting formal status

Officializing is making something official—giving it formal status, recognition, or sanction.

A government might officialize a holiday, a company might officialize a policy that was previously informal.

The word is somewhat bureaucratic and often appears when informal arrangements get documented: They're finally officializing the partnership agreement.
