notification badge

Unread count marker

A notification badge is a small visual indicator, typically a colored dot or number, displayed on an app icon or interface element to signal unread messages, updates, or items requiring attention.

The red circle with a number on your email app showing unread messages is a notification badge.

I had to clear my notification badges—seeing all those numbers stressed me out.
