Message tracking marker
Read status indicates whether a message, email, or notification has been opened or viewed.
Most messaging systems track this automatically, marking items as unread (new) or read (seen).
Some platforms display read status to senders via indicators like "Seen" timestamps or checkmarks: She left me on read for three hours.
Privacy settings often let users hide their read status from others.
