north-east

Between two cardinals

North-east is the direction midway between north and east, or a region lying in that direction: the north-east of England.

This hyphenated spelling is standard in British English; Americans typically write northeast as one word.

The adjective and adverb forms follow the same pattern: a north-easterly wind, heading north-east.
