nonmigratory
Never flies south
Nonmigratory describes animals that remain in the same geographic area year-round rather than traveling seasonally to different regions.
While many bird species migrate thousands of miles between breeding and wintering grounds, nonmigratory species like cardinals and chickadees stay put through all seasons.
The nonmigratory deer population has adapted well to the local climate.
The term applies most often to birds but extends to any animal species that doesn't undertake regular seasonal movements.
