nonlethality
Incapacity without killing
Nonlethality is the quality of not causing death.
The term appears most often in military and law enforcement contexts, where nonlethality is a design goal for weapons meant to incapacitate rather than kill: The department emphasized the nonlethality of rubber bullets, though critics disputed the claim.
Also used in medical contexts to describe conditions or doses that won't prove fatal.
