Non-performance is failure to fulfill an obligation or carry out an expected action.
The term appears most often in legal and contractual contexts, where it describes a party's failure to meet agreed-upon duties: The contract included penalties for non-performance.
It can also apply to employees, systems, or anything expected to function but failing to do so.
