non-Sunni

Outside majority Islam

Non-Sunni describes Muslims who are not adherents of Sunni Islam, the tradition followed by roughly 85% of Muslims worldwide.

The term groups together Shia, Sufi, Ahmadi, and other Islamic communities primarily by what they are not: non-Sunni populations in the region, non-Sunni interpretations of Islamic law.

It appears most often in political and demographic contexts.
