Houthi

Ansar Allah member

Houthi refers to a member or supporter of Ansar Allah, a Yemeni political and armed movement that controls much of northern Yemen including the capital Sanaa.

Named after the Houthi family who founded the movement, the group emerged from the Zaidi Shia Muslim tradition.

Since 2015, Houthis have fought a Saudi-led coalition in Yemen's civil war.

In 2024, Houthi attacks on Red Sea shipping drew international attention: Houthi rebels launched missiles at cargo vessels.
