no vote
Ballot against motion
A no vote is a vote cast against a proposal, candidate, or measure.
In legislative contexts, members cast no votes to reject bills or amendments: The senator's no vote killed the funding package.
In referendums, a no vote opposes the question on the ballot.
The term also describes the collective opposition: The no vote prevailed by a narrow margin.
