night-soil
Collected latrine contents
Night-soil is human excrement collected from cesspools and outhouses, historically used as fertilizer.
Before modern sewage systems, night-soil men would empty privies after dark—hence the name—and cart the waste to farms.
The term is now mainly historical, though the practice continues in some parts of the world.
