narcissistic rage

Bruised ego eruption

Narcissistic rage is an intense, disproportionate anger triggered when someone's inflated self-image is threatened or challenged.

Unlike ordinary anger, it erupts from a deep sense of humiliation or perceived slight—often minor to outside observers.

The reaction can range from cold withdrawal to explosive fury: His narcissistic rage surfaced the moment she questioned his expertise.

The term comes from psychology but has entered general usage to describe volatile reactions to wounded pride.
