mystery ship
Vessel of unknown origin
A mystery ship is a vessel whose identity, origin, or purpose is unknown or concealed.
Historically, the term refers to armed military ships disguised as merchant vessels to lure enemy submarines—also called Q-ships.
More broadly, any ship appearing unexpectedly or behaving strangely might be called a mystery ship: A mystery ship was spotted off the coast with no lights and no crew visible on deck.
